This young couple purchased a Brookside home with plans to complete a full remodel before moving in with their children. They wanted to preserve its charm and history while making it work for their family’s daily life.
The kitchen needed to feel warm, welcoming, and true to the home’s character. Classic cabinetry details, natural materials, and practical storage would carry that approach into the kitchen and adjoining mudroom.

White Oak, Honed Stone & Handcrafted Texture
Inset cabinetry in plain-sawn white oak brings natural grain and warmth throughout the kitchen. Honed Luca di Luna countertops with a bullnose edge add a soft, rounded detail, while a custom plaster hood gives the cooking area a quiet focal point.
Glass-front display cabinets, brass hardware, and shaded lighting complement the wood. A cabinet-front dishwasher blends into the surrounding cabinetry, keeping the sink area visually cohesive.
In the mudroom, cabinetry painted in Sherwin-Williams Slate Tile introduces a deeper color. A white oak benchtop connects it to the kitchen, with drawers, tall cabinets, and open cubbies providing places to organize everyday belongings.
